To Thomas de Metham, escheator beyond Trent. Order to deliver to son of John son of Andrew de Parva Bampton, 7 acres of land in near Thoresby, together with the issues thereof, as John late escheator beyond Trent returned that he had not taken that into the king's hand, but that William de Clapham, sometime there, delivered to John by indenture a messuage and 12 acres of in Starchwaytrig, co. Cumberland, asserting that they were in the hands by reason of the trespass of John son of Andrew in acquiring of Hugh le Clerk of Crofton without licence, who held them in chief ; afterwards at the suit of John son of John, beseeching the king to his hand from the 7 acres and from a messuage built in a part as the messuage and 12 acres are only 7 acres which William de justice in eyre for pleas of the Forest in co. Cumberland of Edward I, the 15th year of that reign, arented to Hugh for rendering 5s. yearly at exchequer of Carlisle, which land, John son of Andrew, John's father heir he is, afterwards acquired of Michael de Ulneton and Adam le who acquired them of Robert, Hugh's son and heir, without the IIIJ. Parr 3. 297 of Edward I or the late king, and which were afterwards taken into king's hands by reason of this trespass, and the king rendered them to son of Andrew by a fine, for rendering the aforesaid ferm yearly ; and king ordered Thomas to take an inquisition upon the matter by men of county, by which it is found that the 7 acres which William de Clapham to John Moryn as a messuage and 12 acres, were only 7 acres William de Vescy arented to Hugh for rendering 5s. as aforesaid and the king rendered to John as aforesaid.
