Robert de Bray acknowledges [that he owes] to Master William de Berges, archdeacon of Berks, 885 marks; to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels in co. Somerset. For further security Robert found William de la Frithe and Richard Laurence as sureties, who acknowledged the said debi, constituted themselves principal debtors, and granted that the debt shall be levied, in Robert's default, of their lands and chattels in co. Berks. John Norman, son of William Norman, acknowledges that he owes to Henry le Mareschal of Gildeford 11 marks 6d.; to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels in co. Sussex.
