To Philip, king of France. The wniversitas of the king's town of Florence, in the confines of his duchy of Aquitaine, have written to him that whereas the wntversitas and the consules of the same have been wont, from the time of the construction of that town, to have protection (messegaria) for their goods and possessions that are under the jurisdiction of the vicomte of Fezensaguet (Lezensaguelli), the said vicomte, with the adhesion in this behalf of the king of France's seneschal of Toulouse, hinders certain men of the said wniversitas from enjoying such protection in their goods and possessions in the jurisdiction of the vicomte, and the wniversitas have prayed the king of England to assist them in this matter; wherefore he requests the king of France to order his aforesaid seneschal to desist from aggrieving the wniversitas contrary to their liberties and rights, and to permit them to use and enjoy the aforesaid protection peacefully as they have been wont to do.
