M. the pope. Brothers Garnerius and Rainerius de Florencia, of the of Preachers, came to the king when he was going towards the outer of his realm, and have presented to him the pope's letters taking the cross and the king's counsel as to the term for a passage and as to expressing a suitable time for this; for the of which letters the king applied his mind, laying aside his cares, and for the receipt whereof he is deeply grateful as a mark of of the Roman church. The king has found the pope's envoys and wise in the exposition of the matter commitied to them inductive persuasion has greatly comforted his heart, and his meekness has much commended and accepted their praiseworthy in this matter. Although they pressed the king to cause answer made to them before they started for Scotland, for which answer would willingly wait or return to him from Scotland, the king, that answer should be made to the pope by his men, is sending to the pope to whom he has opened his mind and who will to the pope the king's answer.
