To the treasurer and barons of the exchequer. Whereas the king sent Master Gilbert de Arderne, his clerk, to choose certain footmen co. Chester and to take them in his service to Scotland, and ordered collectors of the ninth in cos. Warwick and Derby to pay to him 8801. the wages of the footmen, and Gilbert received that money from them paid the greater part thereof to the exchequer because he did not the footmen to the said parts: the king orders them to allow to Gilbert expenses in journeying (ewndo) about the matters aforesaid according their discretion, . 387
