To the treasurer and barons of the exchequer and to the chamberlains. Order to pay to John Payn, the king's serjeant-at-arms, 100s. upon his wages for when he was sent with Roger Normaund to co. Southampton, to enquire concerning the goods taken by men of the realm at sea in certain ships of Almain, for which the king is bound to answer, and to cos. Norfolk and Suffolk with Richard de Castro for purveying wool there and accelerating the shipment thereof, and to account with him or his attorney for the days spent in that service, allowing him reasonable wages for each day, deducting the 100s. from the sum which is found to be due to him.
