Order to cause t e houses, tower and bridges of the castle, the houses and walls of the garden without it, the houses and pond of Wyndesore park, the paling and enclosure about the king's parks there, the houses and walls of Kenyngton manor, and the paling and wall about the park there to be repaired where necessary by the view and testimony of the viewers of the king's works there, and the king will cause up to 40J. to be allowed to him for such repairs. Order not to intermeddle further with 20 acres of waste which belonged to Thomas de Hoton in Hoton Langthwayt, restoring the issues thereof, as the escheator returned that he had not taken it out the king's hands, but that William de Clapham, sometime escheator there, delivered to him by indenture a waste plot called Hoton Langthwayt, near Hoton, in the forest, in co. Cumberland, containing about 20 acres of land by perch of the forest, asserting that it was in the king's hands by reason of the trespass of Richard de Hoton in acquiring it without licence, of Thomas, who held it in chief; and the king, afterwards learning from Thomas de Hoton, kinsman and heir of Thomas, that Richard did not so acquire the waste, but that Thomas demised it to Richard for a term of years now past, ordered the escheator to take an inquisition upon the matter, by which it is found that Richard did not acquire the waste in fee nor for life of Thomas the grandfather, but that Thomas held it in fee, and afterwards granted it to Richard for a term of 20 years, now elapsed for a year and more, and Richard had no other estate there, and the waste is held in chief by the service of rendering 6s. Sd. yearly at the exchequer of Carlisle, and is worth nothing beyond the rent. Oct. 15.
