To William Trussel, escheator beyond Trent. Order to deliver to prior of Caldewell his lands in Bedeford, Bromham, Middelton, Rokkesdon, Chalvesterne, Saundeye, Grutteford, Sutton, Laleye, Holwell, Felmersham and Sholton, if he shall find to answer to the king for the issues thereof during the voidof the priory, if they ought to pertain to him, as the escheator that he had taken those lands into the king's hands by reason the voidance by the cession of brother Roger de Wellyngton, the prior, because 2 carucates of land and 100s. rent which are of the of the priory are within the liberty of the town of Bedewhich is held of the king at fee ferm, rendering 22/. yearly at exchequer, to which ferm the prior renders 39s. 6d. yearly, and because in the time of Henry IIT the advowson of the priory was into the king's hands and so remained, as is believed,; and now the prior's suit showing that the priory is of the foundation of the of Simon Barscote of Bedeford, and that Simon had afterwards that advowson to Roger Mareschal, who afterwards granted it William le Latymer and Elizabeth his wife, and the priory is now the advowson of Robert de Ufford the younger and the said Elizabeth, his wife, and the king and his progenitors have not had the of the priory nor intermeddled therewith, nor received any therefrom, and the prior beseeching the king to order the lands be delivered to him, the king sent a writ of certvorarz to the treasurer barons of the exchequer upon the premises, and now the prior has the king to deliver the lands to him by the security of for the issues thereof during a voidance, if they ought to to the king.
