To John Brode of Smethe escheator in Kent. Order to take of Elizabeth late the wife of Henry fitz Roger an oath etc., and in presence of William Boneville knight to assign and deliver to her dower of her husband's lands, and the issues thereof since 22 March 26 Edward III; as on that date the late king commanded James Lapyn then escheator to take of her an oath and assign her dower; and after at her petition, shewing that she was not yet dowered by virtue of that command or otherwise, the king ordered the sheriff to give notice to the said William, to whom for a set yearly farm the king committed the wardship of a moiety of the manor of Sellynge by Monks Horton, late of the said Henry and in the king's hand by death of Thomas son and heir of the said Henry and by reason of the nonage of Elizabeth wife of John Boneville son of the said William, being cousin and heir of the said Thomas, to be in chancery on the morrow of All Souls last to shew cause wherefore the king ought not to deliver her dower to the petitioner and the issues aforesaid ; at which day the said William came not, wherefore it was determined that she should have her dower.
