To the sheriffs of London. Order, if John Precy late the king's prover in Neugate gaol refused further to prosecute his appeal against Peter Camele of Somerset there imprisoned for harbouring him and for certain robberies by them committed together, and if as the said Peter avers the said prover craving benefit of clergy was after death delivered for chastisement to the ordinary, and if the said Peter be not a notorious thief, by mainprise of John Went brewere, Roger Pycard taillour, John Clerk paternoster, John Cantebrugge smyth of London, Roger Phippayn and John Frome of Somerset to set him free, according to the statute of Westminster concerning the release of those so appealed after the death of the provers; as he has shewn the king that the sheriffs have deferred so to do although many times he has offered mainpernors, and John Went and the others have mainperned body for body and under a pain of 100/. to have him before the justices at the next day for delivery of the said gaol, . 485
