Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the castle and honour of Cokermouth, the manors of Wygton and Popecastre, the soil and herbage of Westwarde in Allerdale, and a messuage etc. in Karlell, delivering to Maud late the wife of Gilbert de Umframville earl of Angos any issues thereof taken ; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that at his death the earl held the premises in her right, and that they are held in chief, the residue by knight service and the said messuage in burgage by the free service of rendering ld. a year called gavilpeny ; and for 1 mark paid in the hanaper the king by advice of the council has respited the homage and fealty of the said Maud until Michaelmas next. To William Berard escheator in Suffolk. Like order, mutatis mutandis, concerning a third part of the manor of Thorstanton and a messuage and 18 acres of land in Haukedon, held in right of the said Maud of others than the king.
