To Elizabeth who was wife of Edward le Despenser knight, farmer the manor of Wynterton co. Warrewyk. Order to pay to Lesandus Avene arent of 61. 13s. 4d. a year so long as she shall have the wardship that manor by the king's commission and the said Lesandus shall and the arrears since Michaelmas in the first year of the reign, which date the king granted her the wardship thereof ; as upon finding of an inquisition, taken at the late king's command by Holt late escheator, that long before his death her said husband that manor to William Strete, Thomas Mortymer and Robert clerk and to their heirs, that they being thereof seised at request the said Edward granted the said rent to the said Lesandus for in reward for 100 marks of land in Wales which the said Edward of him, that long before the said Edward's death the said Lesandus seised of that rent, and was in full possession, receiving the same the said Edward's death, and that he made no release of his estate the said Lesandus petitioned the king for payment thereof the arrears, shewing that the same was in arrear since the said death for that the manor is in the king's hand by reason the nonage of his heir and in the wardship of the said Elizabeth ; the king ordered the then sheriff to give her notice to be in chancery a day now past to shew cause wherefore the petitioner ought not have that rent for life, and further to do ete. ; and she being so process was made between her and the said Lesandus, and on set days; and Michael Skillyng who sues for the king . 189 the attorneys of the said Elizabeth appearing in chancery, as they could say nought to the purpose wherefore he not to have the same, by advice of the justices, the king's and others of the council it was determined that the said should have the said rent for life according to the grant, the arrears. erat patens,
