To the collectors in the port of London of customs and subsidies and of the subsidy of 12d. in the pound. Order, upon petition of Nicholas Crossowe of Dansk in Prucia, merchant of the Hanse in Almain, to suffer him without a second payment of custom or subsidy to unlade and sell to any who will buy the residue of his goods and wares brought to the city of London ; as his petition shews that he laded a ship called la Marieknyght of Dansk, whereof he is master, with 1,302 bundles of boghestaves, brought it to Sandewich, and there sold great part of the same, and that though he paid to the customers there custom and subsidy upon all, as may appear by letters of cocket which he has with him and has produced in chancery, the said collectors are newly demanding of him custom and subsidy upon the residue as if it were not already paid ; and among liberties etc. granted to merchants of the Hanse by charters of former kings, confirmed by the king, it is contained that, when they have once paid custom for their merchandise in one place within the realm and power of England, and have their warrant, they shall thereby be quit of payment for those wares in all other places therein, whether the same remain there or be exported, except wine which shall not be exported without licence of the king; and full agreement is made between the king, for himself and his subjects, and Conrad Zolver of Rothenstein master general of the order of St. Mary of the house of Teutons, for himself and Prucia and the subjects thereof, touching disputes which arose by reason of the capture and detention of ships and wares on either side in name of marque or reprisal.
